At Harold Sharp, we believe in a thriving office environment where nothing is off the table, everyone has a voice to speak their mind and new ideas are allowed to develop.

As Head of Tax, you’ll be in the driving seat and will play a pivotal role in leading our tax advisory and planning offering as we expand our presence in the North West. There will be plenty of opportunity to demonstrate and impart your commercial acumen, client care and technical tax expertise.

Longer term, there will be scope to build out your dedicated tax advisory team as the pipeline grows. You will be a strategically minded individual with a keen interest in the commercial side of the business, contributing to the firm’s growth and taking an active role in our regular tax-related communications and events.

What kind of work will you be leading?

Our clients include SMEs across a variety of sectors as well as high-net-worth individuals. You’ll be managing the pipeline of opportunity within our existing client base, with scope to expand our transactional and tax planning services, and will play a key role in driving the firm forward to sustain its commercial success and reputation.

  • Implemented an Enterprise Management Incentive (EMI) scheme to incentivise key employees within a dynamic group of estate agencies, enhancing long-term loyalty and performance.
  • Guided a successful company buy-out for a well-established car garage in the North-West, structuring the deal to minimise tax liabilities and accelerate growth.
  • Provided strategic inheritance tax advice to the founder of a renowned sports company, securing the financial future of both the family and the business.
  • Orchestrated the tax-efficient buy-out of a co-owner in a property investment firm, simplifying ownership and enhancing investment returns.
  • Streamlined the corporate structure for a leading supply chain risk management firm, significantly reducing tax burdens and improving operational efficiency.
  • Managed complex Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) requirements for a property development company, ensuring compliance while minimising fiscal obligations.
  • Advised a firm of solicitors on the tax-efficient incorporation of their business, paving the way for enhanced profitability and reduced legal complexities.

What will the role involve?

We are looking for someone who aligns with our company values and who is keen to actively contribute to the success of the wider firm. You must have a track record of leading a successful tax advisory team and driving revenue.

Your role will involve:

  • Providing suitable strategic and technical advice and guidance to clients with regards to their corporate / personal tax affairs.
  • Understanding and evaluating the client’s situation and tailoring advice accordingly.
  • Providing technically accurate documentation and key transaction documents.
  • Dealing with client negotiations and liaising with advisors.
  • Ensuring compliance according to internal procedures and to minimise risk.
  • Leading client meetings and ensuring that information given is up to date, clear and not misleading, and that it meets the client’s needs.
  • Understanding and evaluating the impact of market and general economic indicators, and identify any necessary changes to proposed tax advice.
  • Understanding AML requirements, criteria for client take-on, engagement terms and managing billings.
  • Contributing to the firm’s growth by retaining existing clients, building relationships with prospective clients and cross- selling service lines.
  • Working with the leadership team on our strategic growth plans.
